Do I need edge trim for my project?
If you're considering tiling, don't overlook the importance of tile trims. While it might be tempting to cut corners to save time and money, tile trims are essential for a polished and finished look and to extend the life of your tiles. They are particularly crucial for protecting the edges of the tile from chipping. However, in scenarios where the tiles align perfectly with other surfaces, such as the junctions of walls or the transitions to different flooring, you might not require tile trim.
Can you add tile edge trim after tiling?
When laying tiles, it's essential to use spacers to ensure consistent gaps between each tile. Once the tiles are in place, edge trim can be added for a clean finish. Make sure to apply edging trim prior to the hardening of the adhesive material you are using. In many cases, it is impossible to install tile trim after the tile is firmly in place without damaging the tile. Additionally, be aware that fitting the trim often requires cutting tiles near their edges, which can be a challenging and hazardous job, especially when using a wet tile saw, due to the risk of slipping. Exercise caution and consider professional help if needed.
Is it necessary for tile trim to be flush with the surface of the tiles?
Ensure that the trim depth is consistent with the tile depth to achieve a professional appearance. For instance, pairing a 10mm trim with a 6mm tile is a frequent error and should be avoided. A flush finish between the trim and the tile is key for a sleek, expertly finished look. Flush pairing will avoid damages to tile, and hard water stains or dirt from collecting.
